Ingrid Koh

My name is Ingrid Koh and I will be teaching your children Mathematics. I look forward to meeting all of you. I believe that mathematics is the way to understand all sorts of things in the world around us. I hope to make learning mathematics fun and interesting. My goal is to help my students feel motivated, challenged and confident about Mathematics.

I have an extensive background in mathematics and computing. I received my PhD in Applied Mathematics from Stony Brook University in 2001. I worked as a postdoctoral associate and scientific programmer in the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics at Columbia University. My research background was interdisciplinary, requiring skills in Mathematics, Algorithmic Design and Software Development. During my research career I collaborated with neurobiologists at Stony Brook and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory as well as biophysicists and biochemists at Columbia University. My knowledge and experience in Mathematics helps me understand the big picture and I hope my students will learn not only the skills but also why those skills are important.

For the past 4 years I was actively involved in my children's school, PS 24 in Riverdale, Bronx. I spent most of my time volunteering in the Parents Association of PS 24. I was elected PA President last year and I worked with the school administration to fundraise, maintain financial records, design newsletters, as well as provide school enrichment, support teacher programs and community outreach. My most relevant teaching experience comes from the time I spent volunteering in classrooms which I enjoy tremendously.

Currently, besides teaching at SchoolPlus, I am also a substitute teacher in the Fieldston Middle School for the Language, Mathematics and Science Department.

Thank you,
Ingrid Koh
