New NJ state regulations for high school graduation

PARCC has been around since 2010 and since then there are ongoing debates around this program. With all respect to every opinion, we wanted to share with you the New Jersey Department of Education just approved new state regulations for high school graduation, which will impact your child\'s participation in state assessments.
Beginning with the Class of 2021, this year\'s eighth grade class, students will be required to pass the PARCC ELA in grade 10 and the PARCC Algebra 1 assessment to satisfy the graduation requirement. Alternative assessments, such as the SAT and ACT, WILL NOT be accepted as a means of meeting the graduation requirement.
Students graduating as members of the classes of 2017, 2018, and 2019 may satisfy the \"graduation assessment requirement\" through a variety of standardized assessments, including achieving passing scores on certain PARCC assessments, the SAT, ACT, or through a portfolio appeals process (if the student fails to pass the more traditional assessments).
For the class of 2020, current freshman classes, students may satisfy this requirement as described for the classes of 2017-2019, provided the students take all PARCC assessments associated with the high-school level courses for which they are eligible. These include the PARCC ELA assessments for grades 9, 10, 11, and the PARCC Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II assessments. In this regard, all ninth grade students are required to take the PARCC assessment this year.
