The general SUBJECT

of our tours this semester is:

BIG ART AND LITTLE THINGS.

We will be looking closely at a number of artworks paying attention to small details, but mostly we'll talk about the world of objects created by artisans. These artfully crafted objects, though rarely celebrated as major works of art, often used and replicated the subjects and motifs of the "big" art, and at the same time made their way into the "big" art. They populated the pictorial worlds, becoming a part of an artwork's subject matter and artistic language, and sometimes even inspiring it.

The themes of our tours are:

A Greek Year:

following the events in a life of an

Ancient Greek

Italian Renaissance Ceramics:

beauty, entertainment, morals

Looking at the world closely:

the art of the Netherlands

Fabric of life: fashion in art of

different time periods.
